New year, new Air. This week, Nike has given us a first look at several of the brand’s upcoming new silhouettes, including the Air Max 2090, a futuristic take on the legendary Swoosh classic, the AM90.

Nike is celebrating the 30th anniverary of their Air Max 90 this year, one of the brand’s most important running shoes of all time. While the celebration mostly consists of both classic and new colorways of the storied silhouette, it also includes some updates to the outdated design, including a complete overhaul in the form of the new Air Max 2090. Designed as a futuristic take on the vintage running shoe, the Air Max 2090 borrows the from the design of the origial while adding plenty of innovation along the way. For example, the 2090 ditches the suede and mesh layered upper of the original, instead opting for a more lightweight options like translucent ripstop and taped seams. Underfoot, the Air Max 2090 also boasts an Air bubble that is 200% larger than its predecessor, though it is still heavily inspired by the shape of the original.

Nike’s latest Air Max silhouette, the 2090, has not yet been announced for release, though given the timing of their announcement, we anticipate the new model to release sometime on or around March 26th, Air Max Day. The modernized version of the original Air Max 90 will likely exceed its predecessor’s $150 price tag, and launch from both Nike and select retailers.
